A Few of My Favourite Series

A good long time a go I wrote a post listing some of my favourite stand-alone novels so thought it was high time I listed a few of my favourite series. I have picked series from a range of genres and settings (in no particular order). Horror, fantasy, Warhammer etc …

A Darkly Disturbing Occult Horror Trilogy by S. E. England:

 

 

I absolutely loved this series. It featured a violently disturbed young woman named Ruby who is undergoing care in the Drummersgate Asylum. The series essentially plays with the idea that some of those who are classed as ‘insane’ might just be possessed by evil entities. After being put through hypnosis, the evil being possessing Ruby comes out to play …

I have several of Sarah England’s books on my TBR. I cannot wait to read more of her horror. She has a wonderful way of writing.

Eisenhorn Trilogy/Omnibus by Dan Abnett:

 

 

The blurb describes it as ‘part detective story, part interplanetary epic’ and it fits the bill just right! Eisenhorn is one of the more notable Inquisitors to serve the Golden Throne. As part of the Emperor’s Inquisition it is his role to seek out the Alien, the Daemon and the Heretic and put them to the sword, the flame and the bolt gun wherever he can. This trilogy comprises some of the greatest imagery of any series I have ever read and boasts some seriously dark moments.

I am looking forward to re-reading this at some point. Sadly, I read it many years before my blog was born so there is no review up.

 

Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo:

 

 

This series is set in the wildly popular Grishaverse (I still need to read the original trilogy …I know, I’m an unspeakable heathen) and focuses around a small group of criminals who, despite being a bunch of scoundrels, fast become some of your favourite characters from any series you can think of. This, at the heart of it, is essentially what would happen if Ocean’s Eleven was created in a fantasy world. It’s just a heck of a lot better than Ocean’s Eleven.

The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb:

 

 

This will always hold a place in my heart as one of my all time favourite series. It has spawned a further two series that follows and the universe it is set in has another two series that go into it yet are unrelated to the Farseer trilogy. This follows young Fitz as he is trained in the art of becoming and Assassin by the great master of such arts; Chade. This trilogy is written in the first person and, as such, I found it impossible to put down. It also has THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST character that ever found itself written onto a page: Nighteyes.

I read this way before having this blog so, much like so many others on this post, I do not have a review … other than: they are all worth a solid 6 out of 5. If you haven’t read them I can only assume you are going to. If you aren’t planning on it … well … someone has problems.

The Liveship Traders Trilogy by Robin Hobb:

 

 

I didn’t think it would be possible after reading the Farseer trilogy, but I actually think I preferred the Liveship Trader trilogy. I mean, what’s not to like? Living ships, piracy aboard said living ships, dragons and an incredibly human feel to all the characters. I just felt happy every time I cracked the kindle open and got a chance to read this. It truly is unlike any fantasy series I have ever read. Absolutely magical.

Again, there are no reviews on my blog for these, sadly.
