Blurb:
In the wake of their recent loss, the Caverns & Creatures gang are left hanging. Do their choices amount to more than waiting around to die of thirst and leaping to a quicker death? Probably, or else this would have been a much shorter book.

Review:
As anyone who has seen my earlier reviews of this will know, I am addicted and absolutely love this series. Has me laughing out loud at points, something no other books has ever really accomplished. Especially not on a regular basis.
Book 6 sees our party split up again, each following their own paths to, hopefully, accomplish similar goals.
This book explores even more of the Caverns and Creatures world with our characters getting up to such things as: coming up against a ‘Frozen’ inspired villain, fighting spectral shadows in a dying forest alongside horny pixies, ostrasization and much more.
As ever the laughs come thick and fast and the supporting cast really adds some flair to the whole thing.
The humour is, as one would expect with this series, crass, at times childish and mostly the sort of ‘college humour’ you see in American fratboy films. In short, you either love it or you hate it.
Anyone that is a fan of Dungeons and Dragons should really give this series a chance. Especially if the current Covid climate is keeping you from your games and you need a bit of laugh out loud escapism.
Halfway through Book 1 I’m entertained, but not enthusiastic. I know the play on RPG-player stereotypes is conscious, but at times it’s too much for me. It reminded me of Johnny Nexus’ Gamenight, I felt the same way about it.
Sword Art Online was a bit similar… maybe I see fantasies of much younger me, in such stories, and I’m conflicted how to feel about them 😉

It’s certainly one of those series where you either love it, hate it or find yourself on the slender bit of middle ground.
It’s just easy reading that requires so little thought for me.

For anyone who does try this series, if you like/dislike the first book, you’ll feel pretty much the same about any of the sequels 🙂

I think I’ll pass… Not a great fan of D&D, and totally not a fan of fratboy humor 😉 Glad to see you love it, though!

It’s certainly not for everyone 🙈

It’s really nice to see how good this series has been to you! Are there more books in this series (or will there be any more)? 😮

There are 8 so far plus short story collections. It’s such easy, brash escapism after heavier stuff that I’d not mind it to go on forever 😂
