I am JUST starting to creep out of my fantasy slump and am celebrating by snapping up a few fantasy buys and ARC copies. A couple of weeks ago the idea of reading fantasy was enough to make me not want to read in general. Now, however, I’m actually getting excited about reading a few certain novels.
They aren’t all fantasy, and one of them isn’t even a new purchase. The one by A.G. Riddle is just one that I discovered I had and had totally forgotten about. So it kind of feels brand new to me. It’s also probably one of the most apt novels I could have picked up given the global climate …

Madman Across The Water: The Curse Awakens By Caroline Angel:

Deep within, researchers find evidence of a scientific experiment that will alter our very understanding of the human race.
In Atlanta, Dr. Peyton Shaw is awakened by the phone call she has dreaded for years. As the CDC’s leading epidemiologist, she’s among the first responders to outbreaks around the world. It’s a lonely and dangerous job, but it’s her life – and she’s good at it. This time she may have met her match. In Kenya, an Ebola-like pathogen has infected two Americans. One lies at death’s door. With the clock ticking, Peyton assembles her team and joins personnel from the Kenyan Ministry of Health and the WHO. What they find in the remote village is beyond their worst fears. As she traces the origin of the pathogen, Peyton begins to believe that there is more to this outbreak – that it may be merely the opening act in a conspiracy with far-reaching consequences.
In Berlin, Desmond Hughes awakens in a hotel room with no memory of how he got there or who he is. On the floor he finds a dead security guard from an international pharmaceutical company. His only clue leads him to Peyton Shaw – a woman who seems to know him but refuses to tell him how. With the police searching the city for him, Desmond desperately tries to piece together what happened to him. To his shock and horror, he learns that he may be involved in causing the outbreak – and could hold the only key to stopping it.
As the pathogen spreads around the world, Peyton and Desmond race to unravel the conspiracy behind the pandemic – and uncover secrets some want to keep buried.
Orconomics by J. Zachary Pike:
Series: The Dark Profit Saga Book 1
Genre: Fantasy/Comedy
Professional heroes kill and loot deadly monsters every day, but Gorm Ingerson’s latest quest will be anything but business as usual.
The adventuring industry drives the economy of Arth, a world much like our own but with more magic and fewer vowels. Monsters’ hoards are claimed, bought by corporate interests, and sold off to plunder funds long before the Heroes’ Guild actually kills the beasts. Of course, that’s a terrible arrangement for the Shadowkin; orcs, goblins, kobolds, and their ilk must apply for to become Noncombatant Paper Carriers (or NPCs) to avoid being killed and looted by heroes.
When Gorm Ingerson, a Dwarven ex-hero with a checkered past, stands up for an undocumented goblin, he inadvertently singles himself out for recruitment by a prophet of the mad goddess to undertake a suicidal quest. But there’s more to Gorm’s new job than an insane prophecy: powerful corporations and governments have shown an unusual interest in the quest. If his party of eccentric misfits can stop fighting each other long enough to recover the Elven Marbles, Gorm might be able to turn a bad deal into a golden opportunity.
A Song of Three Spirits by J. Zachary Pike:
Genre: Fantasy/Comedy
When life gave Fenrir Goldson a second chance, he asked for a gift receipt.
Mr. Goldson is filthy rich. He’s also callous and cruel and hasn’t got a festive bone in his ancient body. Naturally, he’s due for a holiday haunting.
When his business partner, Bolbi Baggs, announces that they’re to be visited by three spirits, Mr. Goldson braces himself for a whirlwind tour of his past, present, and future.
Typically, a trio of time-traveling ghosts heralds a heartwarming tale of hope and redemption for the human race. Mr. Goldson, however, isn’t a member of the human race. He’s a Dwarf, and Mr. Baggs is a Halfling, and the adventure that’s about to take them across the enchanted world of Arth is anything but typical.
Holiday magic and economic realities collide in A Song of Three Spirits. It’s A Christmas Carol for the 21st century, with a dash of high fantasy. Listen to this hilarious satire of Charles Dickens’s classic today!
Some great books there! I really enjoyed Orconomics, Ashes of the Sun and The Black Prism, and some of the others sound fantastic too! I didn’t even know A Song of Three Spirits was a thing… that sounds too funny! 😄

Bloody loved Orconomics. I blitzed through the Audio Book in two days 😂 going to wait until I’ve gotten to ‘Son of Liche’ before trying A Song of Three Spirits in case there’s any spoilers.
I’m looking forward to trying Brent Weeks out for the first time and it will be my first Django Wexler book, too🙂

It’s so much fun, isn’t it?! I still haven’t read Son of a Liche though… must get round to it! 😀

Yea, it came to me at a wonderful time as I had not long started writing my own comedy fantasy novel. 3 chapters in and I like to think it’s funny … 😂

Well as long as you think it’s funny that’s half the battle! 😂

Whoa that’s a lot of awesome books you have lined up there. Looking forward to your reviews for these. My favorites you ask? Well…Ashes of the Sun sounds very cool (love the premise, and how awesome is that cover…really!😀😀). Pandemic sounds great as well (I have a weakness for post apocalyptic stories, so this sounds right up my sleeve), and then there’s Snowblind…also very cool! (pun intended!) Happy reading!😃

I’m really looking forward to Snowblind! Just got a few ARCs (one of which is Ashes of the Sun) to get to before I can crack into that one.
Enjoying Pandemic at the minute. So many similarities from the one we are living through … just with a thriller twist on it.

I am a huge Weeks fan, so I really hope you enjoy the Lightbringer series. If you like them, then I recommend his Night Angel trilogy. It’s his debut, so it is rougher than the Lightbringer books, but….
and that is for the future anyway. Lightbringer is just tome after tome after tome 😀
♪Just the way ♪ I like it uh huh♪
Glad you seem to be beating the slump!

Yea, it feels great to be out of the slump. Was about to ask if I needed to read Night Angel first, but judging by your comment I do not 🙂

Lightbringer and Night Angel are totally unrelated.

Getting me even more excited to try it. Won’t get to it for a little while unfortunately.
Totally plan on requesting a couple warhammer ones. Will do so after I write a review for one of the titles I already have. Boost my % up a little more 😂

Good job man. Only just realized I requested and recieved more books that are later in a series or that I can only get to after a certain part of reading something else so for me it will be a while before i get to some.

After enjoying Six Stories so much I’m looking forward to trying Snowblind as it’s another Orenda Books title. Gonna be a while, though.

I’ve heard great things about Snowblind and most icelandic, nordic, etc thrillers seem to beheld in high regard by both bloggers and readers. I haven’t read a bad Orenda books book, yet, they are a great small publisher.

Yea, I’m certainly planning on trying more of their stuff. Might even try and get to one of their roadshows if they do them this far south.

I think they might have done them in Nottingham before, not 100% sure on that though.

Well, you know I loved Ashes, so I’ll spare you a repeat 🙂
I got denied for Dead Man, so let me know how it is? I rather enjoyed the first one, so I’m encouraged. Otherwise… I honestly hated Kip (and DNFed the Black Prism), but I hope you like it better! Good luck!

I enjoyed the story of Dead Man In A Ditch but felt the character work was a bit of a drawback. I’m still looking forward to seeing where Fetch goes from here and how the world will evolve.
Yup, excited for Ashes!

I’m looking forward to getting to both of them. I’m on a blog tour for Ashes of the Sun so that won’t be until 29th October. Lord knows when I’ll get to Prism. Just accepted a load of ARCS 🙈
