Upcoming reads & Listens

I’ve got far too many things to list as my future reads, so I’ll just go ahead and listen the ones I will be getting to first. It’s a mixture of things sent by publishers/authors and stuff I have picked up of my own volition.

These books/audio books are not listed in any particular order.

The Bone Ships by RJ Barker (Netgalley)

I grabbed a copy of this via Netgalley purely because if I see something that is set on the ocean, I have to have a looksee. And it’s by RJ Barker … and it has a pretty gorgeous cover. I have finished this one already and the review for this one will be up later this month.

Soon by Lois Murphy (Sent by the publisher)

I recently said yes to reviewing this title from Titan Books. I currently need more horror novels in my life and this one fits the bill. The tag line of ‘If you’re out after dark, you’re already dead’ just has me hooked already. It also has a gorgeous cover. This is due for release mid October, so regardless of when I read it, the review will be out around then. Just what we need, some spookery in the lead up to Halloween.

Cadian Honour by Justin D Hill (Netgalley)

This is another Netgalley find and, once I read and review this one I SHOULD be back up to 100% on Netgalley. This follows the Cadians as they try to regain the honour they feel they lost when their planet was destroyed by the forces of chaos. Currently about a quarter of the way through this and it should be up and reviewed later this month.

They Come At Night by Nick Clausen (Purchased)

I recently read and enjoyed ‘Human Flesh’ by Nick (review can be found here) and, when Nick offered me a free copy of this one I liked the sound of it. I decided to buy it, though. Gotta help the indie authors out where we can. Not sure when I’ll get to it, but it’s only a novella so hopefully I can squeeze it in soon.

‘Four teenagers. A cottage by the beach. A scary secret kept by the locals.’ Sounds intriguing.

Killer Domes and the Chosen One by Gibbo Gibbs (Sent by author)

Gibbo recently reached out to me and offered me the chance to read his post-apocalypse novella. He caught my attention at a time when I am really enjoying my shorter works and this one seemed interesting to me. As with Nick’s, I can’t say for certain when I will get to it, but hopefully sooner rather than later. Has lots of great reviews so I am hopeful.

The Kingmaker Contest by Troy Clem (Sent by author)

Much like with the one above, Troy caught me during my love of shorter works phase. It has got 5 star reviews across the board, so I am hopeful og an enjoyable tale that packs a punch in less than 200 pages. It is the start of an ‘epic series’.

 

 

 

Audio Books

Lancelot by Giles Kristian (Purchased)

Giles is one of my favourite historical fiction authors. So, anything he publishes in the future will certainly find its way on to my bookshelf or my audible library. I honestly don’t know a great deal about the King Arthur legends, so it’s nice going into this retelling with a spoiler-free mindset. I am almost finished listening to this one so the review should be up in a week or so.

Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff (Purchased)

This is the third book in the Nevernight Chronicles and is quite easily the book I have most been looking forward to this year. I’ll be putting a fair amount of stuff on hold to spend more time listening to this. Literally got excited when hitting the download button!
